Running out of sticks? Your progress changes the answer.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Before the Axe, revisit the first spawn room for loose sticks; after the Axe, check the roots you can now clear. Pwnbeard’s co-op group says the early pickup loop was still insufficient, but the shortage disappeared after they could clear roots and reach more rooms.[1]

Before the Axe: revisit the starting area

Nitromaster161 and Spoopball both point to the beginning room. Their estimates differ, and the thread has no timed respawn experiment. Check the actual pickups on a return trip rather than waiting a promised number of minutes or assuming each visit creates a fixed bundle.[1]

Reduce repeated torch use where you can

Spoopball suggests placing a torch in a stand or wall holder to keep a route lit. Pwnbeard says the group was already doing this and still lacked sticks early on. Treat it as a consumption-saving suggestion from the same discussion, not an independently tested unlimited-light guarantee.[1]

After the Axe: inspect cleared roots and new rooms

The original poster attributes the improvement to sticks from clearing roots and to the larger area they could explore. If roots still block your route, follow the Axe landmarks and frog-water-area lead. Do not try to solve that gate by spending more sticks.

Can planks be converted into sticks?

That is the question the thread starts with, but the sampled replies do not establish such a recipe. Excess planks are not proof of a missing Workbench conversion. Keep the advice to searching, lighting choices and the tool milestone rather than an invented plank recipe.

SINGLE_SOURCE discussion with a two-player shortage and the original poster’s later outcome. Exact platform, patch, yields and regeneration times are unknown; this site has not tested the loop.
